Homeworks! :D June 15, 2011

Math
Draw parabola x^2-2x+6y-11 = 0. Identify vertex, focus, endpoints of LR, axis and directrix.
Write the equations of the parabolas w/ the following characteristics:
- vertex(3,6), horizontal axis, focal distance of 5
-vertex (4,-2), axis perpendictular to x-axis, length of LR = 12
-the lines x+y = 1 and x-2y = 7 contain the focus, directrix: y = 1
-endpoint of LR is (4, 10) and (4, 0)

I... Don't remember the other homeworks. :))

Real-Life Problem: Power rates are getting expensive every year. Most homeowners do not actually have the time or patience to figure out how much electricity their household has consumed before the power bill arrives. Also, many homeowners do not know which appliances consume the most amount of power.
Proposed Solution: A device that monitors and controls the power consumed by the appliances in the household.
Specifications:
  • An embedded system will be used to monitor power consumed per outlet
  • Each outlet can be enabled or disabled by the embedded system
  • The homeowner can easy configure the "power budget" by a web interface or by SMS
