Biology
Bio Procedure on 1 whole sheet of pad paper, due Wednesday:
Design your own experiment
(Pre-Lab on Enzymes)
Objective: To determine the effects of your chosen factor on the rate of reaction (observed as formation of bubbles)
Factors affecting enzyme activity
1. Temperature
2. pH (you may use HCl & NaOH)
3. Substrate concentration (use different volume of substrate; ex. 1ml, 2ml, etc.)
4. Enzyme concentration (vary the size of the enzyme)
5. Particle size (use same amount of enzyme then cut it in different sizes)
Available materials:
test tubes stirring rod
pH paper HCl & NaOH
pig's liver (enzyme) hydrogen peroxide (substrate)
water baths (hot & cold)
*pig's liver of matchbox-size will be given
1. Identify your controlled and dependent variables.
2. Outline your procedure (step-by-step) in flowchart format. Be sure to prepare 3 set ups with 3 replicates per set up.
3. Write your predicted outcome.
*Write this in one whole sheet of paper; submit first meeting next week (Oct. 8 or 9)
*Don't forget to bring your labgown next meeting:)
